But bizarrely it doesn't top the Series X and Series S list We knew Forza Horizon 6 was going to review well, but it's pleasing to see just how much it's won over both the critics and most players so far — to the point where, according to Metacritic, it's the highest-rated video game of 2026 so far. Yes, Xbox tops the list here, although it should be noted that due to how Metacritic works, FH6 isn't actually the highest-rated game for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The multiplatform list is made up of technically new releases (so Hades 2 isn't eligible), and the average score for each game is made up of the platform with the most reviews. So, for example, Resident Evil Requiem has an average of 93 for Xbox, which would put it above Forza Horizon 6 at 92, but it has the most reviews on PS5 where it has a score of 89. Confusing, but hopefully you get it! Let's take a look at the Metacritic top 10 video games of 2026 so far: And now, here's a look at the top 10 games for Xbox in 2026 so far: It's a bit weird how different these are, right? Look at Mixtape, for example — it has a 92 average for Xbox based on 9 reviews, but then the PS5 version with 33 reviews drops it down to 86, which essentially puts it in joint-tenth place in the multiplatform list (but they've got it listed as 13th for whatever reason). None of this stuff is worth taking that seriously, but the main takeaway is that Forza Horizon 6 has done brilliantly for itself, and Xbox has a genuine Game of the Year contender on its hands here. It's unlikely to win considering we've got GTA 6 on the way, but who cares — the most important thing is that Xbox and Playground Games have delivered a terrific first-party release with FH6. Let's hope Halo, Fable and Gears go as smoothly, eh?

Google launches line of Android laptops festooned with Gemini AI - The Register

If you're not a fan of having AI baked into your OS, look elsewhere Google is rolling out a new line of laptops based on Android instead of ChromeOS, and using the opportunity to try and move upmarket from the budget-conscious Chromebooks – while also baking AI into every fissure of the system. The new line of so-called Googlebooks seems even more obtrusive about pushing embedded AI than Windows 11 embedding Copilot into everything.
